Grace Pramuk grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio until her family moved to Arvada, Colorado in 2017. Pramuk explores issues of social and environmental justice like immigration, climate change, and gender inequity through her acrylic paintings, soft pastel works, and colored pencil drawings, with the goal of sparking complex conversations and inspiring social change. While the themes behind her work are often dark and unsettling, particularly in the context of the current political climate, Pramuk approaches these topics through a lens of hope, using vibrant and highly saturated colors to emphasize the beauty in those that are often overlooked, neglected, and marginalized in our society. Many of her pieces may not seem overtly political at first glance, inviting people with a multitude of perspectives and life experiences to engage with her work. Through this approach, she hopes to foster empathy and bridge the divisions that increasingly separate people and whole communities.
Her work is deeply inspired by her love of nature, her identity as a woman, and her experience growing up in an interracial family with Haitian immigrant and LGBTQ+ siblings, as well as parents who immersed her in social justice work from a very young age.
As an emerging artist in the Denver area, Pramuk has completed several professional commissions, including large-scale private commissions, university affiliated commissions, graphic arts commissions, and pet portrait commissions. She has also exhibited her work in several university and local galleries, including 40 West Arts, Auric Gallery, and NKollectiv. She has published scholarly works in the arts, including her undergraduate thesis, Mother Nature in Visual Arts: Reminding Us of Our Fundamental Connection with the Earth, and she co-authored The Santos Painting Tradition of 18th Century New Spain and New Mexico: Re-envisioning the Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Lagos as a Space of Native American Nepantla, written with Dr. Kristin Montes. She has also worked closely with local arts organizations in Denver, including Athena Project, a nonprofit organization that amplifies the work of women and underrepresented genders through the arts.
Pramuk currently lives and works in the Denver metropolitan area, where she continues to develop a body of work that explores the interrelationship of human beings with one another and with the natural world.
